Aqwator is a modular wave power plant consisting of a set of floating pontoons that form a wave-absorbing blanket on the sea surface. The power plant is placed floating on the sea some distance from the beach zone, and consists of a mechanical superstructure where the floating pontoons have free movement in the vertical plane and fixed mutual positioning in the horizontal plane.
The energy absorption takes place through mechanical movements which are converted into electricity via electro-hydraulic generators. Aqwator is a sea-based wave power plant that can produce power for offshore installations and aquaculture, or deliver electricity via submarine cables to onshore grid.
